Description

Helkama's first moped model, which went on sale in 1956, was the Hopesauma E2 MOPO. The MOPO model name was so catchy that it generally became established in the Finnish language to mean a motorized bicycle, i.e. a moped. Just under ten years later, Helkama introduced the everyman's bicycle, or JOPO, which has become very popular. The book presents Helkama's two-wheeled production from the founding of the Hanko bicycle factory in 1953 until the last moped, the Helkama AX, was completed in Hanko. The book is aimed mainly at veteran vehicle enthusiasts.

Already in the past, Alfamer has published works from the production of the two largest domestic moped factories, Tunturi and Solifer. Helkama was the third largest domestic manufacturer. Helkama's decades of operation in the bicycle trade laid the foundation for its own industrial production. Helkama developed original models for both mopeds and bicycles, which even aimed for the export market. The motorcycle trade carried out by the Helkama companies is also mentioned in the book.

The book discusses Helkama's two-wheel production by model year, which makes it easier to determine the age of your own Helkama veteran. Instructions are also given for restoring a Helkama veteran moped or bicycle. The appendix contains number information and e.g. Exploded views of engines used by Helkama, etc.
